Probably one of the best examples around.

With the introduction of the Giulietta in 1954, Alfa Romeo established the formula “small car, great performance” which from that moment on will characterize the best offers of the Milanese brand. The classic Alfa four-cylinder cam was downsized to 1,290cc for the Giulietta, getting an alloy cylinder block in the process.
The original Bertone-style Sprint Coupé was soon joined by the Berlina (sedan) and Spider (open) versions, and then in 1957 came the model intended to represent the Giulietta par excellence – the Sprint Speciale – the first of the new 101 Series cars .

Built on a slightly shorter wheelbase than the standard Sprint, and once again Bertone’s work, the luscious and curvy Sprint Speciale came with 100hp on tap, a five-speed gearbox and a top speed of 125mph. Compact, aerodynamically efficient and very powerful for its size, the Sprint Speciale proved to be a great success in class racing
1,300 cc worldwide. When the model was replaced in 1963 by the Giulia version, only 1,366 were produced. Today these rare bus-built models are highly prized by Alfa Romeo connoisseurs and collectors around the world.
